Week two of video has begun and so far, a lot of this week has just been spent building off of last week, particularly finalizing the final details and filming “Girl Power” the TV show!
Last week and over the weekend, my group members and I finalized all of the planning for our video.
Over the weekend, we decided to put a basic outline together filled with what we want to discuss on our show as well as the basic the strcuture/plan for how our tv show will run. The main concept of the show is to continue discussing female secret agents and how we can further diversify our understanding of secret agent genre to be more inclusive of female storylines.
As many of you guys have probably guesssed, our decision to create “Girl Power” into a tv show stemmed fromour radio show “Girl Power.” We really enjoyed creating our radio show and giving female secret agents the chnace to take center stage as our class unpacks the secret agent theme. Ultimately by creating this video show, we are looking to contribute to a continuing conversation of sotrytelling when it comes to female secret agent but doing it in a way that our viewers find educational and entertaining.
Our basic plan for our show is as follows:
-Intro (of show)
-introduction of guest #1 and interview
-introduction of guest 2 and interview
-Games with hosts and guests
We decided that we wanted our show to mimic pretty closely to the Ellen Show. We decided to base our show to be like the Ellen show becasue pretty much everyone is familiar with the Ellen show and it’s format, but also Elln is a pretty amazing female herself!
Once we had the basic format/plan of events for our show, we decided next to come up with what we wanted to talk about!
Originally, we planned on coming up with a script for our show, but similiar to our radio show, we wanted this to mimic an actual conversation that youo would see on a talk show and opted for coming up with some basic questions to ask versus a literal word for word script.
Our radio show touched a lot on the constant sterotypes female secret agents face, and we wanted to continue/build on those converstaions by interviewing two ‘actual’ female secret agents themselves. Planning our radio show this way was really helpful becasue we had questions to guide along our discussion, but really let our show flow freely which I think made it more relaxed and entertaining.
Once we had all of our plans figured out, It was time to start filiming! We origianlly came up with the idea to film in a classroom in woodard with a green scree, unfortunatlye we were not able to get access to the room and had to improvise. We ended up shooting our show in Christina’s family room, which actually ahd a great talk-show vibe to it. The biggest thing with filming our show was 1. trying to make it as realistic as possible, and 2. being conscious of incorporating all of the things we have discussed in class. For example, one big thing we constantly thought about was the shooting angles and the inclusion of sound tracks. We wanted our show to be shot in a good angle that was close enough you could see us, but back far enough you could see both of us talking at the same time. Furthermore, we began filming our show and realized tht it was super awkward with us just talking. We wuickly realized the importance of going back later and including audio of laughing and clappping tracks to fill int he awkwrdness and make it mroe realisitc. this eant however, that we had to plan when we were going to add the audio track and pause as we were filming.
Overall, our tv show was a lot of work, but I am glad with how the filming process turned out and am excited to no focus on the diting portion of our show! So far, this project has been really eye opening regarding the amount of work and detail that goes into tv shows and is really indicative of things we explored last week regarding how everything we see on tv and movies is done intentionally. Pllaning and recording our tv show, we wanted to make sure that everything we shot was intentional and wouold serve the greater purpose to educate and entertain our audience. Going back now to edit our show and add sound and commericals will only add to make our show more realisitc and I am excited to see how the final project turns out!
