What do you think of when you think of secret agents or spies?
Let me guess… you are probably picturing masculine, strong, dashing men like James Bond, Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer or maybe even Austin Powers.
While these men are all secret agents or great spies, there is something missing from the list above…
That’s right….FEMALES!!! When people think of secret agents or spies, I think a lot of the times we immediately forget about how females can fall into the category of secret agent/spies.
In a couple of week, we are going to be forming groups and creating a radio show. This week, as we explore audio, we are to brainstorm ideas for a 20-30 minute radio show that is somehow related to our class theme. While there is so much to unpack about the secret agent theme, one thing I think would make for a really interesting show would be a show dedicated to fictional female secret agent/ spies!
Female representation in the media and in real life is something that I always feel passionate about. I think that a lot of times females are still regarded as mentally and physically weak, which explains why they aren’t a lot of people’s first mental representation when they think of secret agents or spies. But I think it would be really interesting to dedicate a show discussing some awesome, strong, female secret agents and what make them so amazing! I hope that this radio show can be a way to diversify our understanding of the secret agent theme, and also contribute to discussions about the audio and imagery that goes into the storytelling of female secret agents as opposed to maybe secret agent stories with a male lead.
While I know this is a very rough idea, I think with some class insight from interested individuals, we can really turn this into an awesome radio show!
